Annual Report

Updated 02-Apr-2013

Whether your interest in history is personal, academic or just a more general desire to find out how our forefathers lived, the Linton and District History Society offers a friendly welcome and helpful advice.

Events

The Society meets regularly from October to March for illustrated lectures on local and general history.  In the summer months outings are arranged to houses, gardens and museums within (roughly) an hour's drive-time of Linton. Non-members are welcome to attend meetings and most outings, although the annual membership fee is currently (2010) only £5 per year.

Family history

In co-operation with the Village Computer Group the Society has transcribed on to CD-ROM the entire Parish Register of Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals from 1570 to 2001. These include families resident in Gorsley until 1892 when Christ Church, Gorsley was consecrated. The Society’s archive includes photos of local buildings and events, as well as recordings with local people made over the last 25 years.
